What is Aerated Concrete?
A construction material used for the production of blocks.
Composition of Aerated Concrete:
The primary raw materials used in the production of aerated concrete are:
- Lime
- Sand
- Water
- Cement and gypsum (in small amounts)
As a pore-forming agent, aluminum powder is used, which, when reacting with calcium oxide, releases hydrogen gas.
The escaping hydrogen creates a porous structure within the material, and the air eventually fills these pores, making up 80% of the final volume of the material.
Advantages:
- Durability of constructed partitions
- Low bulk density (lightweight)
- Ease of installation
- High dimensional accuracy of blocks and shapes
- Favorable strength-to-density ratio
- Good thermal properties, allowing for single-layer walls with high thermal insulation
- Non-combustibility
Disadvantages:
- Brittle nature of individual elements
- Requires careful protection against moisture during storage, transport, and after installation (moisture reduces thermal insulation and frost resistance)
- Insufficient acoustic insulation in walls between residential units
