However, based on my experience working in a <strong data-start=\"706\" data-end=\"738\">prefabricated concrete plant<\/strong>, I\u2019ve learned that <strong data-start=\"758\" data-end=\"817\">concrete is only waterproof under laboratory conditions<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"822\" data-end=\"1050\">As a <strong data-start=\"827\" data-end=\"845\">young engineer<\/strong>, I was responsible for <strong data-start=\"869\" data-end=\"897\">testing concrete samples<\/strong>\u2014they were perfectly prepared, stored in <strong data-start=\"938\" data-end=\"967\">ideal humidity conditions<\/strong>, and carefully maintained. Naturally, the results <strong data-start=\"1018\" data-end=\"1047\">always came out excellent<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1052\" data-end=\"1339\">But <strong data-start=\"1056\" data-end=\"1099\">construction sites are not laboratories<\/strong>. In real-life conditions, <strong data-start=\"1126\" data-end=\"1180\">we have limited control over environmental factors<\/strong>, which significantly affect concrete performance. <strong data-start=\"1231\" data-end=\"1291\">What happens to waterproof concrete in these conditions?<\/strong> Unfortunately, <strong data-start=\"1307\" data-end=\"1336\">it stops being waterproof<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"1346\" data-end=\"1408\"><strong data-start=\"1350\" data-end=\"1406\">What Can Go Wrong in Waterproof Concrete Technology?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<h4 data-start=\"1410\" data-end=\"1464\"><strong data-start=\"1415\" data-end=\"1462\">Production Errors at the Concrete Plant<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul data-start=\"1465\" data-end=\"1650\">\n<li data-start=\"1465\" data-end=\"1563\"><strong data-start=\"1467\" data-end=\"1491\">Incorrect mix design<\/strong>\u2014wrong <strong data-start=\"1498\" data-end=\"1521\">aggregate selection<\/strong> or <strong data-start=\"1525\" data-end=\"1560\">incorrect cement-to-water ratio<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1564\" data-end=\"1650\"><strong data-start=\"1566\" data-end=\"1585\">Delivery mix-up<\/strong>\u2014even a small error in <strong data-start=\"1608\" data-end=\"1629\">batch preparation<\/strong> can cause failure.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4 data-start=\"1652\" data-end=\"1688\"><strong data-start=\"1657\" data-end=\"1686\">Transportation Issues<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul data-start=\"1689\" data-end=\"1969\">\n<li data-start=\"1689\" data-end=\"1751\"><strong data-start=\"1691\" data-end=\"1738\">Concrete should be poured within 50 minutes<\/strong> of mixing.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1752\" data-end=\"1835\"><strong data-start=\"1754\" data-end=\"1772\">Traffic delays<\/strong> can result in over-aged concrete, which should be discarded.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1836\" data-end=\"1969\"><strong data-start=\"1838\" data-end=\"1862\">Adding water on-site<\/strong> (to improve workability) <strong data-start=\"1888\" data-end=\"1926\">compromises the water-cement ratio<\/strong>, making the concrete <strong data-start=\"1948\" data-end=\"1966\">non-waterproof<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4 data-start=\"1971\" data-end=\"2011\"><strong data-start=\"1976\" data-end=\"2009\">Poor Installation on Site<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul data-start=\"2012\" data-end=\"2388\">\n<li data-start=\"2012\" data-end=\"2128\"><strong data-start=\"2014\" data-end=\"2050\">Incorrect waterproof joint tapes<\/strong>\u2014improper selection, faulty installation, or weak welding can lead to leaks.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2129\" data-end=\"2245\"><strong data-start=\"2131\" data-end=\"2162\">Improper concrete placement<\/strong>\u2014dropping concrete from <strong data-start=\"2186\" data-end=\"2208\">too great a height<\/strong> causes <strong data-start=\"2216\" data-end=\"2231\">segregation<\/strong> of the mix.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2246\" data-end=\"2388\"><strong data-start=\"2248\" data-end=\"2272\">Inadequate vibration<\/strong>\u2014either <strong data-start=\"2280\" data-end=\"2345\">too short, too long, or using an insufficiently deep vibrator<\/strong>, leading to honeycombing and weak spots.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4 data-start=\"2390\" data-end=\"2431\"><strong data-start=\"2395\" data-end=\"2429\">Inadequate Concrete Curing<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul data-start=\"2432\" data-end=\"2730\">\n<li data-start=\"2432\" data-end=\"2571\"><strong data-start=\"2434\" data-end=\"2472\">Curing is as important as pouring.<\/strong> After placement, concrete must be maintained at the <strong data-start=\"2525\" data-end=\"2568\">correct moisture and temperature levels<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2572\" data-end=\"2612\"><strong data-start=\"2574\" data-end=\"2588\">If too dry<\/strong> \u2192 it must be watered.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2613\" data-end=\"2669\"><strong data-start=\"2615\" data-end=\"2629\">If too wet<\/strong> \u2192 it must be protected from rainfall.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2670\" data-end=\"2730\"><strong data-start=\"2672\" data-end=\"2687\">If too cold<\/strong> \u2192 it must be heated to prevent freezing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"2732\" data-end=\"2812\">Each of these <strong data-start=\"2746\" data-end=\"2762\">human errors<\/strong> can render waterproof concrete <strong data-start=\"2794\" data-end=\"2809\">ineffective<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"2819\" data-end=\"2849\"><strong data-start=\"2823\" data-end=\"2847\">What\u2019s the Solution?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<h4 data-start=\"2851\" data-end=\"2914\"><strong data-start=\"2856\" data-end=\"2912\">Assume that concrete is NOT waterproof by itself.<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p data-start=\"2916\" data-end=\"3065\">To ensure a <strong data-start=\"2928\" data-end=\"2958\">truly waterproof structure<\/strong>, additional <strong data-start=\"2971\" data-end=\"3006\">mineral-based sealing materials<\/strong> should be used to <strong data-start=\"3025\" data-end=\"3062\">close any cracks and micro-damage<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3067\" data-end=\"3304\">This brings us back to <strong data-start=\"3090\"
