Most importantly, if you develop an incorrect understanding of how soil layers are distributed and what risks you face from groundwater or an aggressive environment, you will make poor decisions regarding the building\u2019s foundation and waterproofing methods.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"349\" data-end=\"667\">The illustration shows a traditional foundation method: footing, foundation strip, and light damp-proof insulation. This is an appropriate approach <em data-start=\"497\" data-end=\"507\">provided<\/em> that the soil around the building is permeable, the groundwater level is below the foundation, and there is no risk from aggressive environmental conditions.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"669\" data-end=\"884\">However, if you misinterpret the soil survey results and groundwater periodically reaches the foundation level, you must use heavy waterproofing. In such cases, everything may <em data-start=\"845\" data-end=\"851\">seem<\/em> fine\u2014but in reality, it's not.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"886\" data-end=\"1047\" data-is-last-node=\"\">Remember, a poorly designed or incorrectly selected waterproofing system can only be repaired after installation\u2014it cannot be fully undone. So how do you fix it?<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=\"259429\" img_size=\"large\" alignment=\"center\"][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"0\" data-end=\"307\">Here, we see a traditional foundation method. We are using heavy, layered waterproofing. It is incredibly complex\u2014just look at the number of overlaps and individual layers.
